Principal's Bio

Ruby Young Elementary
Medical & Environmental Science Magnet Academy

Greetings once again to my RYE Platinum Family Circle!

I am so elated that we as a Platinum Learning Community have been together for the last year and a half!  We will continue to strategically press toward our goal with perseverance and urgency to attain a premier status as an institution of learning. Our minds and actions will remain aligned with the vision of the campus and district. The nucleus of our work will highlight what is best for children and their complete development as learners, leaders and contributors to our local, national and international society.

As many of you know, I am a very passionate educator and have had a very active, engaging and productive career for over twenty years. Therefore, I work diligently each day with purpose. This is the mindset that I work to impress upon our staff, students, community partners and all other stakeholders. Certainly, I leave all that I have "on the field" for those whom I serve. As a committed member of this Platinum Learning Community, I will continue to work each day without watching the clock! We must all commit to stay focused until our work with children is complete!

Indeed, I wholeheartedly believe that all children can learn when provided the optimal learning environment. However, learning must remain personalized for every child. Thus, there will be a strategic focus on individualized learning and equal access for all children who are part of the Ruby Young ES as well as the Medical & Environmental Science Magnet Academy.

Again, I am excited and elated to be part of the RYE family! Now, let’s go platinum as we work towards making our vision become a reality throughout the process of becoming a model of excellence in every endeavor.

Our Goals for the 2018-2019 Academic Session
1) Increase overall student performance in every state-assessed content area (Reading, English/Language Arts, Math, Science) by at least 7% by May 2019.
2) Ensure that each student gains at least nine months to one year's growth in the areas of reading fluency & comprehension and mathematics.
3) Maintain our "Academic Distinction in Science".
4) Obtain an "Academic Distinction for Top 25 Percent: Comparative Academic Growth".
5) Work strategically to enhance staff, student and parent mindfulness by employing a framework for Socio-Emotional Learning(SEL) which will support all stakeholders, especially staff & students, socially, emotionally and academically.

I look forward to seeing us breakthrough this year in a platinum way with endless possibilities!

For the sake of serving the children,

Mrs. Duren
